2006 ECS CC Top 16 (17) race, Nov 18 "Play In" match
Every year we invite our Top 16 points drivers in the East Coast Supercharging Corvette to race against each other in a bracket for $1,000. We call it the Top 16 Invitational Gamblers Race. It is a gamblers race because drivers fund their own payout. Each driver pays an additional $75 to buy in and the winner receives $1,000 and the runner up gets $200.

This year, three of our Top 16 drivers cannot make the race. That mean we invite the next three ranking drivers. But this year we have a dead-heat tie for 19th (the new 16th) and only one driver can get in. John Panuzzo and Joe Signore each have 23 pts, no event wins and -120 for the tiebreaker points. Our third tiebreaker is a run-off race of the tied drivers.

This will be the first year we will have to go to this "play-in" tie breaker much like the NCAA play-in game.

See the current view of the ladder (updateable up till Friday night) and wish the drivers well on The Corvette Forum.

Corvette Challenge Racers Qualify at Outlaws At Atco
09/26/06 - This past weekend Atco Raceway in Atco NJ, held the inaugural "Outlaws at Atco" 2-day event. It featured 6 heads-up classes with three of them being index classes. Sponsor, Leo Barnaby qualified his car in the Outlaw 10.5 class (tires not et) and two Corvette Challenge racers made the 12.0 index field. Paul Bogden qualified his 97 Corvette in the number 12 spot of 16 where with a 12.135 and 20 drivers attempting to qualify. I managed to get real lucky and claim the top qualifying spot with a dead on 12.002. Three other drivers went dead-on as well. This was touted the tightest 12.0 index field in the history of 12.0 at Atco with the bump being 12.276. See my videos at www.challengevideos.com/outlawsatatco.php. Read all about it and see pictures and video at www.godragracing.com.

Ernesto Wins. Corvette Challenge and Pro 10.0 Rained Out!
09/02/03 - Well I thought we would not need all of our rain dates but we do. Hurricane Ernesto has sent us rain and winds causing the rain out of today's Raceway Park Actiivties. We will be using our November 11, 2006 rain date to make up these races. Racing to begin at 9 AM. Try to make the best of what's left of this holiday weekend.
Vette Doctors Pro 8 Shootout Make-up Date Announced
08/31/06 - After long and careful consideration participant input, I have decided that our make for the Vette Doctors Pro 8 Shootout presented by Neverlift Racecraft will be made on on one of our predetermined makeup dates, November 18, 2006 9 am.

This is the last day of the season and I realize we are taking a risk if weather does not cooperate but I felt the only other viable option of our make up dates (Nov 3, 11 and 18) was Nov 11 and that would force the Pro 8 to run two consecutive weeks and wanted to provide some recuperation time between races. Drivers will have to qualify for the makeup as qualifying from Aug 19 will be thrown out

So I hope you all have your calendars clear November 18, 2006 9 AM. Put it all on the line as the season comes to an end, the championship, the car, the bragging rights

This Pro 8 race will happen in conjunction with our Corvette Challenge Top 16 $1000 Gamblers Invitational so we will have two great races to watch on the season finale

Event 8 Called on Account of Rain After 1 Round while Pro 8 Totally Rained Out.
08/10/06 - After the first round of qualifying was completed today, rained ended our day. Corvette Challenge round 1 winners split the pot getting a $20 credit and the The Vette Doctors Pro 8 Shootout did not get to start round 1 so there race was postponed to a date yet to be determined. Some exciting passes were captured on (video) and will be processed as soon as possible as well as a first round recap for the Corvette Challenge. While we wait, visit the Corvette Forum to discuss the Corvette Challenge and Pro 8 Shootout.

Preliminary points for Corvette Challenge updated (no tiebreak updates yet) and no Pro 8 points were awarded becasue there was no first round. See boxes on left with links to full standings.

08/08/06 - As part of our family of classes for the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge, presented by Yank Converters and Gear Star Transmissions and The Vette Doctors Pro 8 Shootout presented by Neverlift Racecraft and our newest class, The Cartek Racing Pro 10.0 presented by Silly Goose Racing Stables, Raceway Park invites our top drivers to participate in front the huge crowds as a demonstration of what Raceway Park has to offer. Our Top 4 Bracket racers and Top 2 Pro 8 and Pro 10.0 drivers have been invited to participate FREE in these classes, Unfortunately, several of our top drivers declined participation either due to other commitments or downed cars. I am happy to announce our participating field for tomorrow nights show;

Corvette Challenge

Pro 8 Shootout

Pro 10.0 Index

I want to thank you gentlemen for taking the time and opportunity to participate in this event. I did it once and it was a huge thrill.

I have spent a fair amount of time with Raceway Park ironing out the final details and I am happy to report that for the first time ever, Raceway Park will be putting in a payout for these classes. The payout is due largely in part to appreciation for the success of our classes and the participation and support of all of our sponsors.

This in addition to the Free entry into the race and show.

If you are in the area and can support our Corvette Classes, please do. It is a great show with racing and monster trucks and jet cars and all kinds of crazy stuff and a packed house.

Tortolani Captures First Corvette Challenge Win (Event 7) and Perez Tops in Pro 10.0!
07/29/06 - After way too long a layoff, David Tortolani, Supporting sponsor of the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge, proved he was still sharp pulling off his first Corvette Challenge win and moving up to 2nd place in points. Neil Vernarelli was the runner-up in the manually shifted '57 (event details by Sheila to follow). In the Cartek Racing Pro 10.0, we had a field full of surprises and I, Edgar Perez, was probably the most surprised coming away with the win when points leader David Outten struggled to maintain traction.

Preliminary points have been calculated (see left boxes) and you can see the bracket final video and Pro 10.0 video final.

Attention Racers with Muffler Eliminators
03/14/06 - Raceway Park has always had a muffler requirement for Saturday racing. In the past there has been some lenience to racers with muffler eliminators who met the db requirements. However Raceway Park will now strictly enforce the "Mufflers required" rule for Saturday including all or the ones we race in. We have come to agreement with Raceway Park that all Corvettes must meet the muffler required rule by our third race of the season, April 1, 2006. Any driver coming to the track on and after April 1, 2006 without mufflers or with muffler eliminators will not pass tech inspection and will not be allowed on the track. This ruling applies to all Corvette Challenge classes including Pro 8 Shootout and Pro 10.0. Raceway Park phone is 732.446.7800. If there is any question about the legality of your exhaust, please contact Paul Bailey at Raceway Park and ask. We thank you for your cooperation with meeting this requirement.

Announcing the Return of our Title Sponsors
03/02/06 - We are happy to announce the return our title sponsors for the 2006 season which is just about to begin. East Coast Supercharging, Cream Ridge, NJ, will again Title the most popular Corvette only drag racing series in the country. ECS holds the title over our 10 points races, 1 non-points race, the Top 16 race and the Top 4 race.
More on the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge.

The Vette Doctors, Amityville, NY, also returns as the title sponsor of our Pro 8 Shootout Class. Not only do they return as the Title sponsor of this 5-race all out heads-up class, but remain hard at work with some feature cars just for this class. This could be the first year one of our Corvettes makes a 7-second quarter mile pass and they are looking for it to come out of their camp.

With the addition of the new Pro 10.0 Index class, we are happy to announce the return of previous bracket title sponsor, Cartek Racing, Garwood, NJ. Cartek is taking the Title role in the new 5-race series for heads-up racers limited to a 10.0 index which does not allow racers to under 10.0. This new exciting class creates an affordable yet exciting level of heads-up racing for all.

Attention All Power Adder Racers

02/17/06 - There is a new rule for 2006 regarding all non-stock power adder cars including non-stock Turbo, non-stock Supercharger and all Nitrous Oxide cars. You will require a single layer fire jacket to race with these power adders at any ET if you are slower than 10.00.

Section 1A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
" 10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory." In addition any car running over 135 mph will have additional requirements so please ask if you think you will be in that area.

These jackets can be gotten from www.summitracing.com, www.jegs.com or any other race oriented web site. Cost will be around $100 - $200 or so.

Registration for 2006 Points Going Strong
02/08/06 - With roughly six weeks to go to our season opener, we are happy to say registration for the 2006 points season. If you have not signed up click for the points sign up form (please not Pro 10.0 is not on the form so please write it in).
Banquet Blues Cured
02/13/06 - Turns out we got hit with quite a bit of a storm. Thank you all for your understanding in the banquet move to March 25th. In the meantime, I have set all of the video from last year's banquet so you can watch that.

The Banquet Has Been Rescheduled to March 25!!
02/10/06 - After the last years Banquet had to be moved due to weather, I thought I'd never have to do this again. Wrong! I have been watching the weather to and have decided there is too much risk in asking you to travel during the expected Nor’easter/blizzard. The Holiday has agreed to allow us to move the Banquet. Unfortunately, the earliest we can do it is March 25, 2006. So please update you calendar. Please email me to confirm you have read this message.

Corvette Challenge Featured in Vette

The Corvette Challenge was featured in the April 2006 issue of Vette magazine. This issue should be available at local book stores now. The article was written by Edgar Perez and features the history of the Corvette Challenge, a championship wrap-up of the 2005 season and 15 Corvette photographs taken by our Corvette Challenge photographers. If you cannot pick up a copy locally, you can order a back issue direct from Primedia. It is possible the article will appear on the Vette magazine web site so you may want to look at www.vetteweb.com. The article name is "Mounting a Challenge".
How To Launch a Z06
01/29 - One of our racers, Rob Zona, has put together a how to on launching his Z06. Cutting low 1.4 60' times is possible in a Z06 with heads and cam. See how Rob does it in the How To Launch a Z06 Corvette article by RobZ.

Introducing a New Heads-up Class, Pro 10.0
01/16/06 - It is with great pleasure that we officially announce a new class for the Corvette Challenge Drag Racing series. Joining our very popular bracket racing class run over the past 6 years and the Pro 8 Shootout heads-up racing, we are adding a new Index class set at 10.0 seconds. The new Pro 10.0 (pronounced Pro 10 Oh), class will feature the heads-up racing action on a pro tree and sportsman ladder for the eight quickest qualifiers within the Pro 10.0 that many drivers has asked for. The Pro 10.0 means that no car shall run under 10.0. Any car running under 10.0 in qualifying will not have that qualifying run count and any car running under the index in eliminations will be disqualified in that round (see rules for one exception).

Index racing has become a popular part of the heads-up racing scene in the past few years and Raceway Park and the Corvette Challenge are happy to offer it to its Corvette racers beginning 2006. It gives racers an option to run heads-up at a competitive level that is affordable. Many proven combinations can attain this level of competition from a head and cam package and strokers to forced induction applications such as nitrous, super chargers and turbos. The new C6 Z06 with a few mods should be an instant contender.

In conjunction with the introduction of this class, we would also like to welcome aboard Joe Amodea, who will administer the Pro 10.0 class on race days. Joe is an avid racer and has been known to work at Raceway Park when not racing there on all three weekend days. Most of you already know Joe as "Impala Joe" or 1996LT1 on the Corvette Forum. Let's give a warm welcome to our new administrator.

Pro 8 and Pro 10.0 Corvettes Added to Wednesday Night Show for '06
01/03/06 - It is with great pleasure that we announce today, the addition of two Vette Doctors Pro 8 racers and 2 Pro 10.0 Index racers to our lineup of four bracket racers at the Jet Car Nationals on August 9, 2006. For the past three years, Raceway Park has invited our Top 4 points racers to be a part of this spectacular show. We have run an eliminator for our Top 4 on this Wednesday night show where we race in front of thousands of fans. For 2006, Raceway Park will also invite the Top 2 Pro 8 and Top 2 Pro 10.0 racers to this show. Details of eliminations have not been worked out, but rest assured, we will be sending 8 Corvettes instead of 4 to this year's show. More details as the date draws near.
