2  David Shen 9.570 137.79
8/21/2010 - Englishtown, NJ - Fresh after racing last week, everybody is back at Raceway Park to go at it again. Well…….almost everybody. The only 9.50 racers to make it to the track are Dave Harris and David Shen. Both Dave’s are the only racers who have made it to every American Racing Headers Pro 8 Shootout 9.50 Index presented by Cartek Performance Engineering event this year.

This week the weather is a little bit better than last week. The temperature was about 15* cooler and the DA was hovering around 2400'. As the 9.50 class is announced for the first qualifying run, Dave and David's personal grudge match is about to get started.

Qualifying

Dave Harris eases his sleek black 03 supercharged Vette into the water box on the left side of the track. In the right lane David Shen is preparing his 65 classic nitrous fed red Vette for the first pass. After the burnouts both Vettes are staged and ready to go. David Shen gets off the line first and crosses the stripe first with a 9.481 @ 138.88 MPH. Meanwhile Dave Harris rockets down the track in a qualifying time of 9.548 @ 143.37 MPH. David Shen has got a little adjusting to do before the next round.

In the next qualifying session, the Dave's switch lanes for this pass. This time Dave Harris is first off at the green light and first across the finish line with a 9.558 @ 139.00. David Shen gets his qualifying time with a 9.570 @ 137.79 in the left lane. So going into the first AND final round it is Dave Harris in the top spot with his best time of 9.548 and David Shen rounding out the field with his time of 9.570.

Round 1: Final

After the first two rounds both David Shen (2) and Dave Harris (1) have a "win". And both "wins" were in the right lane. Dave (1) has lane choice and picks the left lane which is were he had his best hook and time.

The Final round is called and Dave (1) with his purple shirted crew assists him to get staged in the left lane. His wife Vivian gets him up to the line while his Mother, who was celebrating her birthday, observes and makes sure everybody doing their job correctly. And two other friends were handling the photography duties. David (2) gets his help to the line in the right from his Father. Burnouts completed, nitrous purged, and both racers are staged and ready to go.

The yellows flash and Dave (1) is first off the line with a slight .012 advantage over David (2). After 60' David (2) takes a slim lead as he hooks well. Dave (1) has a slight tire spin which wiped out his RT advantage. As both Vettes scream down the track Dave (1) is starting to real David (2) in. Blasting past the finish line it is David (2) at 9.590 & 135.44 MPH with the win by .0083!!!! Dave (1) just ran out of track with a time of 9.610 & 145.20 MPH.

These two guys always put on a good show when they are paired up. Hopefully before the season ends they will get some competition. Sonny Pongonis looked good in the last race. Jay McCardle always brings his A game. Hopefully he can get his car back together for the balance of the season. We have 6 weeks till we race again. With all that time more 9.50 racers should be able to show up.
