08/14/10 - Englishtown, NJ - There were three entries today for the American Racing Headers Pro 8 Shootout 9.50 Index presented by Cartek Performance Engineering. For the second race in a row, Dave Harris qualified his supercharged Corvette in the number one position and went on to take the win collecting the additional points award for getting the race win from the number 1 spot. Could it be the season is taking its toll on our racers? No, not really. The Shen team did not make it out today as they had a prior commitment they could not break. Jay McCardle's Corvette, which was hurt in the last race, was not back yet. Sadly for us or even better for you, news came out this week that Mark Shaw is selling his two-time class Champion Corvette. He is offering car and trailer for a reasonable price to our racers so please take a look and give it some consideration if this class is something you may have in your future plans. To see Mark's post, click here. Best of luck to you Mark. Additionally, George Smith, another player in the class, has also sold his car.

Qualifying

The three entries today were David Harris, Mike Wright and Alfred "Sonnie" Pongonis. Sonnie missed the first qualifier as he also entered the EFI Quick Time 8 heads up LS class which he went on to win. He did make it out for the second qualifier. Harris led the class with a number 1 qualifying pass of 9.561 @ 148.61. He was followed in qualifying by Mike Wright, a first time entry in the class who also entered the Corvette Challenge bracket class. Wright was in at 12.097 @ 117.79. Pongonis was in the third position having trouble hooking up his supercharged entry, with a 14.323 @ 81.28.

2010 Race 7 Ladder

Round 1: Semi-Final

With an uneven number of cars for the class, the number 1 qualifier, Dave Harris, would get a bye run into the final. He was first on the track and would lay down an impressive 9.518 @ 137.15 with a .129 reaction time. He was set to try and go back-to-back in the class having won the prior race. Mike Wright (2) and Sonnie Pongonis (3) would square off next. This is Wright's first entry into the class. When the tree lit up, Sonnie was gone with a .215 light while Wright trailed with a .723. Sonnie laid off a little and took the win with an 11.881 @ 81.03. Wright crossed the finish line with a 12.863 @ 96.20 mph.

Round 2: Final

We go into the final with the same two drivers as the last race with Dave Harris (1) facing Sonnie Pongonis (3). They would line up with Harris in the left lane and Pongonis in the right. Pongonis got off the line first with a .104 light to Harris' .132. He held that lead through the race and got to the finish line first. He did not get the win however as both drivers ran under their 9.50 index. Harris ran under by the least running 9.471 @ 142.43. Pongonis ran 9.229 @ 125.46. The win is Harris' third of the points season and second in a row. Thanks to all who came out today including Harris' family and fan club as you will see in the pictures, their is a huge sea of purple shirts (Harris Team shirts) in them.
