East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge #6 ends in Rain
By Tony Buonassisi
The racers in the 6th East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge not only had to contend with it being held on a Holiday weekend but also had the weather and a few oil leaks on the track thrown in for good measure. The second round found thirty cars lined up in the lanes ready to go but the track cleanup and rain put an end to the competition. With a lot of the top racers going out in the first round and Edgar Perez sipping Margarita's aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean it was a chance for the people behind them in the points race to close the gap on the leaders. The rain came down and with the forecast not looking any brighter the race was finally called off. On a positive note, all the first round winners took home $20 and added points to their Standings.
Winning the Panuzzo Trophy for best reaction time in round 1 was James Peins in his '92 with a .511 light. John Panuzzo in his '96 took home the "Zaino" starter kit with 1st round loss by smallest Margin of Victory, getting beaten by .0046. Taking the "Marrota Racing" 1st round loss by Red Light Closest to .500 was Paul Ziajski in his '02 cutting a .495 and Rob Farley in his '89 took home the "Boweryboy Racing" prize for 1st round Win or Lose Closest to Dial in by running a 13.785 on a 13.78. Congrats to you guys and thanks to the sponsors for making the first round a real fun round.
In the pits Sheila Murchan was back to form making it to the second round with a new "Pro Torque" converter and a rebuilt tranny. Frank Shear(Mr. MoJo) had his new ignition system in and was running good. The "CCDV" pit chief was really impressed by Bob Sebrowski's enclosed trailer and told him how much she liked it. JP knows the real story. During the rain delay most of the racers that are only a few points back from the leaders were hoping to get a few more rounds in to catch up. Al Conner is still looking for Corvette Clubs to get into the fray for the Corvette Challenge Club Trophy. Contact for the Club Challenge can be made via email at clubs@corvettechallenge.info
Going back to the 5th race on Aug. 16th, the The Vette Doctors Quick 4 had Bill Maloney in his '97 going against Brian Miller's '99. Bill cranked out a 10.247 to Brian's 10.594 to go to the finals. Chris Conell in his '99 went up against John Carter in his '00. Chris went to the finals when John broke at the line. Chris had a 10.649 on his run. Bill Maloney then won the Q4 by running an 11.062 against Chris Coriell's 11.337. Our congrats to Bill on his fine performance and win.
