10/11/03 - The final Vette Doctors Quick 4 for 2003 was indeed an interesting qualifying event as the number four qualifier only managed 98.95 MPH. But when it came time for racing, the racers worked out their issues and once again provided some excitement to the finish. Brian Miller drove his 99 Lemans pace car paint scheme coupe to an event quick 10.04 to beat Bill Maloney in his 97 Black Coupe with a 10.09 in the re-run of the final. Miller was also 2 tenths better on the pro tree.
We had to have a re-run of the final because during the original run, both drivers lit up the tires so well that the smoke from Miller's car somehow confused the timing equipment and recorded a 7.60 elapsed time for Miller. While he would love to have a 7.60 time slip, he did not want it that way so they re-ran it. For a video of the final, click here, (34 MB file. Maloney got to the final as the number one qualifier (second event in a row), when he defeated Paul Major in the semi-final. Major got into the Quick 4 by a margin of .006 seconds in spite of having issues with his nitrous system and only managing and an 11.554 ET at 98.95 MPH. Major hustled a jet change before making it to the line. Maloney's car, with its new transmission (read last events results) did not experience any issues and easily handled Major. Miller's semi-final race was closer as he was more closely matched with John Carter in his Navy Blue convertible. Carter ran a better, but losing 10.81 to Miller's 10.85 "hole-shot" win. Yes it was the tree cut by Miller, .4 to .7 that got him the win. Carter, also entered his Corvette in the SLP car show and won a 3rd place trophy in the Corvette class. This was Carter's second Q4 appearance. Miller thanks the Vette Doctors for putting up with him so long with changes to his car, Maloney for being one the best competitors and "...John Mackey and Edgar Perez for your endless support and creativeness to keep this as one of the top events at Englishtown".
Waiting in the wings as alternates in the event one of these drivers did not make the first and semi-final round call were Edgar Perez, 11.560 and Ralph Savarese 11.872. We had another couple of cars at the Corvette Challenge today that were quick enough to make the Quick 4 class but did not meet all of the requirements to enter in the competition. Joe Foderaro clicked off an 11.055 run and Kevin Helmintoller clicked off an 11.071. In order for drivers to enter the Quick 4 competition, they must meet all of the rules laid out on The Vette Doctors Quick 4 rules page.

While the official Quick 4 season has come to a close for 2003, please check back. We are working on the Quick 4 for 2004 and perhaps and exhibition race at our last race in 2003.
