Corvette Challenge Coordinators Rob Farley and Edgar Perez Racing at Pinks All Out
06/18/09 - This weekend, Corvette Challenge coordinators Rob Farley and yours truly, Edgar Perez, will be attending and hopefully competing at the filming of the Pinks All Out event at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Rob is already there as there will be testing today and I will join him tomorrow morning for the filming. You will be happy to know that Rob was selected as a feature car meaning he will run alone with other featured cars and it is very likely you will see him and the 1998 Pace Corvette on television when the show airs. If you wish to keep up the weekend actives, there is a thread on Corvette Forum you can read and post in and I will post a few update on our Twitter page. Click for Corvette Forum thread or visit the Twitter page.
June 6 Pro 10 Article now ready
06/11/09 - The Pro 10 article from June 6th is now ready. Congratulations again to David Shen. Visit www.corvettechallenge.info/2009pro10-2.php for the article.
Louis Calicchia wins Event 5 Corvette and David Shen wins Pro 10 Race 2
06/06/09 - Beautiful day of racing as Louis Calicchia comes out the winner in the Corvette Challenge over Gary Hillen who went on to win the EFI 11.50 index race after this final. In the Pro 10 it was David Shen back in the winner's circle and Edgar Perez with his second Pro 10 DI runner-up in a row leaving with a loss but the points lead. More to come. Preliminary points are updated. Click for standings.
Just Added 11.50 Article from May 9th
05/27/09 - Just added that article from our last 11.50 race won by Jerry "Boogieman" Muniz written by runner-up Rob Farley. Thanks for waiting. Click for May 9, 2009 Pro 11.50 article.
Corvette Challenge and Pro 8 Shootout Articles done
05/16/09 - We have completed two of the three articles from this past weekend's racing. For the Corvette Challenge article won by Eric Fischer click here. The Pro 8 Shootout article please click here. The 11.50 article should be ready in a week.
Points now Official, Articles delayed
05/12/09 - A quick update, points have been verified by Raceway Park and are now official. We made two corrections from the preliminary posting. Also to update you on articles, the CC article will be out at the end of the week (left round one at home :(), Pro 8 will likely be sooner, tonight maybe and 11.50, well he went on vacation so it will not be till next week. Best way to get notified when the articles are up is to sign up to follow us on Twitter www.twitter.com/CorvetteChallen or just keep visiting here.
Eric Fischer, Michael Conway and Jerry Muniz pull Wins in Event 4
05/09/09 - It turned out to be a great day for racing and Eric Fischer took the points lead in winning his second ECS CC over first time finalist Shay LaScalla. In the AMR Pro 11.50 it was Farley in the final with Jerry Boogieman Muniz and Boogieman took the holeshot win to Farley's quicker ET but slower tree. Five racers entered the ARH Pro 8 Shootout. Amazingly attrition led to Mike Conway taking two competition singles for the win and the points lead in Pro 8. More details to come.

Working on preliminary points now. Please check back soon. We have pictures, videos, article..the works...coming.

Announcing Schedule Change
04/15/09 - Due to last week's (April 11) rainout, we will be altering our schedule to make up for the rainout. As stated at the beginning of the season, we have moved the 2009 Top 16 to Nov 7, 2009 freeing up Oct 31, 2009 for the makeup. Oct 31, 2009 will be a full Corvette Challenge points day and will be a full Pro 10 Double Index day. This should be the final points races of the season for these two categories, provided we do not have to move again. Fingers crossed. If you are following on Twitter, you should have received a message around 9:35 pm today.
Rained Out
04/11/09 - At 7:30 AM today, Raceway Park announced all drag racing for the day has been rained out. We have suffered our first rainout of the year, and what I hope is the only one. We will confirm make date information early next week.
AMR 11.50 Race 1 Article is now ready
04/10/09 - The full article for our AMR Pro 11.50 this past weekend is now ready. Thanks to Rob Farley for writing the article. To read the article click here.
Corvette Challenge on Twitter
04/06/09 - Have you ever missed a race and wanted to know what is going on? Who is in the final? Who qualified number 1? Or have you ever been on the way to a race with a shaky weather forecast and cannot get through to the Raceway Park Hotline and wish someone would call you to let you know what they know? Or, have you ever missed a news announcement on the webpage here like when a new article is posted. Welcome to the age of Twitter.

The latest craze in internet communications goes one step further; it gives you ability to receive text messages on your phone with updates. We have signed up the Corvette Challenge on Twitter and now you can "Follow" us on Twitter. Visit www.Twitter.com/CorvetteChallen/ to see the recent updates made to the Twitter page. If you sign up for Twitter, you can also sign up your cell phone and then select it to receive email updates.

It is a little cumbersome to do this but it breaks down to four steps.

  1. Set up your own Twitter account at www.Twitter.com (you will see a Join Today button
  2. Add you "device" (phone) to the account if you want text updates (you should have a text plan on your cell phone. If not this is not for you yet.
  3. Go to the CorvetteChallen Twitter page and "Follow" us.
  4. Then click on the "Following" link and set the device to on for the CorvetteChallen Twitter account.
Presto! You will get text messages with updates.

Some users had a little trouble setting up there devices so here is a quick link to the Twitter Phone FAQ page.

To sum it up, I will use Twitter as a way to send out short updates to you. You can Follow on the web or on you phone. I will use it like a text message distribution list. You can stop "Following" anytime you want or turn your device off or even delete your account if you like at anytime. This is just another way for me to keep you informed. You can use Twitter for more but all I would want you to do for our Corvette Challenge is Follow CorvetteChallen (could not use the whole name as there is a character limit for user names so I had to cut off Challenge. Try it out.

This is not just for racers, fans of he series and family and friends can sign up as well.

Corvette Challenge Article Ready
04/05/09 - I have finished the article for the Corvette Challenge Event 3 won by Ellis Gray yesterday. The article includes links to pictures from Artie Chin. For the article click here.
Gray, Farley and McCardle Winners Today on the 1/8th Mile in Event 3
04/04/09 - Racing is done for the day on a day where it was windy to say the least. 30 mph winds force the Raceway Park so shorten our racing to the 1/8th mile only. This is the second time in a year this happens to us. Drivers adapted quickly and Ellis Gray took the win in the Corvette Challenge by 99 ten thousandths of a second over Doug Bereczki who was dead-on in the final. In the Pro 11.50 we shortened the ET to the NHRA prescribed 7.40 and three racers qualified with 7.41s having no issue adapting. Rob Farley got away with the win when he spun and ran a half-second off but Shay LaScalla ran under taking her third penalty of the day in the class. In the Pro 8 Shootout, Jay McCardle took an uncontested win in the shortened 5.35 index. Preliminary points are posted here. You can congratulate racers on The Corvette Forum.

More details to come.

Today we tried an experiment feeding real-time updates from the track via the latest craze on the internet, Twitter. I have set up an account for the series for news and real time updates. Fifteen drivers are participating so far. Find out more and "follow" The Corvette Challenge at www.Twitter.com/CorvetteChallen/.

Welcoming our 2009 Title and Presenting Sponsors
04/02/09 - Please join us in welcoming our 2009 Title and Presenting Sponsors for the Corvette Challenge and Pro Classes. We wish to welcome back East Coast Supercharging as the Title sponsor of the largest Corvette series in the country. ECS has been our Title sponsor since 2003. It is with their great support we have continued this great series. We also wish to welcome back Yank Racing Converters as the Presenting sponsor of the 2009 Corvette Challenge. Thank you for the continued support of the series.

In our quickest heads-up class of them all, we are happy to bring back American Racing Headers as the Title sponsor of the Pro 8 Shootout. ARH is one of the leaders in its industry and recognizes the effort our Pro 8 Shootout racers make to bring us the fastest Corvette show around. We would also like to thank Carroll's Rod & Racecraft for returning to the Pro 8 Shootout as the Presenting sponsor of the class. We are all looking forward to seeing the new C5 solid rear in action in the class.

In our new format Pro 10 Double Index class we are happy to welcome back Cartek Performance Engineering. A classic fit for the new-look class is the new-look family operated business that has supported the Pro 10 class since its inception. The class is also happy to have J&M Motorsports back as the Presenting sponsor of the Pro 10 Double Index.

We are happy to announce an all new Title sponsor for the Pro 11.50. Anger Management Racing will be the 2009 Pro 11.50 Title sponsor. AMR has been a Corvette Challenge Associate sponsor in the past and now moves up to Title for the 11.50 class. Returning as the Presenting sponsor for the growing index will be Russ DeLibero Emerald Financial Resources. This will be the second year for Russ as our Presenting sponsor.

Please take a moment to visit the websites of all of our Title and Presenting sponsors, especially if you have not done so in some time as many have revamped their sites and have new offerings. Also, you can thank our sponsors on The Corvette Forum.

Check back tomorrow when we will have an announcement regarding our Corvette Challenge Specialty Sponsors and class Associate and Supporting sponsors.

Articles Ready
03/23/09 - Complete articles from this past weekend are now ready. The articles include lines to four photo albums and the event videos. For the Corvette Challenge click here. For the Pro 10 Double Index click here.
Eric Fischer Wins ECS CC Event 2 and Mark Shaw Wins Inaugural Pro 10 Double Index
03/21/09 - First points day of 2009 and the weather was great for racing. Eric Fischer goes 6 rounds to win the Event 2 over Vic Gandhi while Mark Shaw went 4 rounds in the new format Pro 10 Double Index defeating Edgar Perez in the final. We had Mike Roberts at the event with the camera and my wife Alina shooting video so we should have some good stuff for this event. Preliminary points are updated and list on the left or here. Eric Fischer leads the Corvette Challenge and Edgar holds a 3-point lead in Pro 10. Though Mark Shaw won the event, he incurred a penalty for going 9.999 in the first round which is under his 10.0 index.

More to come; check back regularly for articles.

New Look Pro 10 Start Tomorrow
03/20/09 - The new Cartek Racing Pro 10 Double Index debuts tomorrow, March 21, 2009. The class looks very promising with already 14 drivers registered to compete to become the champion of this new format class. If you don't know, the class is now a double-index class. Drivers choose and 10.00 or 10.50 index and compete together meaning some of the pairing can be handicapped a half-second. This concept is new to us Raceway Park computers cannot handle the qualifying for the two indexes mixed so we will be doing it manually. Please bear with us as we go through our first race tomorrow.

As a primer, I have prepared a sample of how qualifying might look with the mixed index and a sample ladder. To view the samples, visit this link on the Corvette Forum

Qualifying Procedure

Drivers will all wait in the pits until called to the lanes. You will be called to the lanes and each index will be in a separate lane. For example the call may be, "Cartek Pro 10 drivers to the lanes. 10.0 to lane x and 10.50 to lane x". You will notice I don't know the lanes right now so you have to listen carefully. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT you go in the correct lane. If a driver goes into the incorrect lane, your qualifying will be counted against the index in that lane. Drivers, let's police ourselves and make sure the driver in front and behind you is in the right lane as well.

Thank you

Almost There! Top 16 and Warm-Up Race News
03/12/09 - We have good news for all Top 16 racers. You can race both Top16 and Corvette Challenge Warm-up. When you get to the track you will buy one Corvette Challenge tech card. Top 16 and Corvette Challenge warm-up racers will make their time trials together. When they call Corvette Challenge, we all go. Raceway Park will run Corvette Challenge warm-up first round first and ALL Top 16 drivers can participate in the Corvette Challenge. No extra charge. Thank you Raceway Park!!!! Sometime after first round of Corvette Challenge round 1 there will be a call for Top 16 Corvettes. We will then run 1st round of Top 16. So we will basically participate in two eliminators for the price of one. You can opt to not run in the Corvette Challenge but I doubt anyone will want to skip that.

Don't forget if you have not signed up for points, do so at the track. Also if you like to contribute to the Jenna Barnaby Benefit Race, please see Edgar. Also, please read the gate letter you get when you buy your tech card and if you don't get one, ask for new.

Thank you all, see ya Saturday and Good Luck to all.

Corvette Challenge Racers to Sponsor Jenna Barnaby Benefit Race
Leo Barnaby's friends are doing a race to benefit his daughter, Jenna. Keith Mittermann and Wayne Keegan are organizing the special 8.50 index race that will also feature some 6 or maybe 5-second Outlaw 10.5 tire turbo racers on May 9, 2008 which is also a Pro 8 Shootout for us. Racers will be able to participate in both as Mike Conway plans to. I have committed to a sponsorship to the race as a group of Corvette Challenge Racers. I will take donations, in any amount and it will all be donated as a Corvette Challenge Racer Group. Please see me at the track or contact me via email to make a contribution to the race sponsorship. Click on the flyer like to see a sample of the flyer. Corvette Challenge Racers will be along the side of the flyer.

02/15/09 - Okay folks I have a Corvette Challenge Banquet video ready. Please note, it is a large file (120 MB) but the server should stream it. 2009 Registered Points Drivers Listed
02/06/09 - Ladies and Gentlemen, we have begun to receive updates from Raceway Park on officially registered drivers. Jeanne was nice enough to give me a file to get started with so thanks to the Champ. There are several other drivers whose registration has been received but not entered into the system. We should have another update next Friday so check back again. Here is the list of registered 2009 drivers (the page has a link to the registration form if you have not sent yours in) 2009 Registered Drivers
Saturday Staging Lane Procedures for 2009
02/03/09 - One of the new things they will be doing on Saturdays at Raceway Park with the singles session days all the time is calling cars to the staging lanes. If you have raced on Sundays you are familiar with this. We will likely not have lane assignments like have had in the past so you will not be going to the staging lanes until you are called to the lanes. When called it could be lane one or any other lane we are called to. When they will pull us to 2 lanes and when those are full they will move us to the next two. This means listening to the call will be much more important so be sure and keep a radio close by tuned to Raceway Park station 87.9 FM
Congratulations Banquet Award Winners
02/03/09 - Our annual banquet was a huge success, Saturday January 31st. Congratulations to all the racers recognized including our class Champions, Jeanne Linke, Rob Farley, Wayne Keegan and Mark Shaw. Congratulations again to our 2008 Brian Miller Award recipient, Eric Fischer and Dave Ramsden Most Meticulous Driver recipient Dave Harris. John Hadyniak won the Banquet Reimbursement prices and Andy, Shay LasCalla's guest, was the Reaction Time Challenge winner with the best average while Marianna Trieschmann scored a perfect .000. We hope to have pictures by John McCartney available over the weekend and video sometime after that.
2009 Dates Are Now Official. Raceway Park Releases Schedule
01/26/09 - Raceway Park has officially released their 2009 Schedule thereby locking down our 2009 Schedule. There our no changes from the last announced change. Go ahead and make plans. The rainout makeup strategy, though we hope not to need it is to first move the year end Top 16 date and use that. Subsequent rainouts would continue to move that date deeper into November and be we will make our races in November.

As you peruse through the 2009 schedule for Raceway Park you will notice three "Corvette" related events in addition to our 12 dates. There is a Corvette vs. GTO race, The Annual Show & Go and new Corvettes vs. The World. As details are available for those we will update this site. Additionally, many of usually classes return such as the GM EFI series, the Index series and Real Street along with new events such as the Modern Muscle Car series and Hemmings Musclepalooza.

One Change to Preliminary Dates
01/12/09 - It was brought to my attention that one our dates conflicted with Corvettes at Carlisle. That date, 8/29, has been removed. Big thanks to Raceway Park for understanding. 10/24 has been added. Please note the change if you wrote those dates down this weekend as it changes the Pro classes as well.
2009 Corvette Index Procedure Change - Double Breakouts
01/11/09 - Corvette Index racers will be happy to know that we are making a change to our double-breakout procedure for 2009. There were several events 2008 in which a double breakout caused competition single runs. This happened many more times than we ever anticipated. For this reason, we have decided to change that procedure.

When 2 drivers breakout in the same elimination round, the driver who breaks out the least will be allowed to advance to the next round. The winning driver will be able to continue accumulating points for the event and be eligible for payouts. This will not change our 20 point penalty which both drivers will be accessed in a double breakout. This change also means a driver can be accessed multiple penalties in an event if they go under their index again.

This change applies to all Corvette index classes, Pro 8 Shootout, Pro 10 Double-Index and Pro 11.50.

2009 Preliminary Race Dates
01/10/09 - You will notice our 2009 dates are listed on the page. Our schedule remains a 12-date schedule with the first date open to all Corvettes being a non-points race and our Top 16 will compete in the '08 Gambler's Invitational. Our points days will hold 5 dates each for our Pro 8 Shootout (P), Pro 10 Double-Index (T) and Pro 11.50 Index (E). We will then have 10 points dates and our 2009 Top 16 to finish the season. The dates are preliminary however they are 99% firm. We should have confirmation on Monday that they are final. Please note, as we did in 2008, any date in November is a potential make-up date in addition to the Top 16 date, which would likely be the first rain date if we need one. Keep November loose.
Two Corvette Challenge Racers Going to the Bracket Finals in 2009
01/08/09 - We have just received confirmation that in 2009, Raceway Park will be sending two Corvette Challenge racers to the NHRA Division 1 Bracket Finals. We have sent one driver for the past several years and now we will be sending 2 to be a part of the 2009 Raceway Park Street ET team of 8. This is a very high honor given to our racers to be a part of the team. We compete for team and individual titles. The Street ET Champion for Division 1, which we are a part of, goes on to compete in California against the six other Street ET champions for great cash, prizes and National notoriety. The drivers in 1st and 2nd place at the end of our August 29th race will be receiving the invitations. Huge thanks go to Raceway Park for the addition and best of luck on getting the nod in 2009. Hurry up and sign up for points (see below) as it is worth a point in bonus to do it before our first race.
2009 Points Signup Form Is Now Online
01/07/09 - The form to sign up for any of our points classes, and any other Raceway Park class for that matter, is now online. You will notice each of our four classes listed on the right. Fill out the form and send it in with your check. Click on the link below for the form.

To sign up for points for the 2009 season, click on the image link or contact Raceway Park at 732-446-7800 or at www.racewaypark.com.

Please Note: If you are signing up for points, the number is free so you only need to send in your points sign up fee.

Trophy Upgrade Reminder
01/03/09 - Happy New Year to all. As you know, points racers have the option to participate in a Trophy Upgrade program in the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge. In the program, you exchange your 1st round win trophy for a "credit" towards a nicer single trophy representing the number of wins you achieved for the year. So if you win 10 times, you get one nice crystal desktop trophy instead of 10 of the same 1st round trophy/plaque. Most drivers do participate in the program. The awards are given out at the annual banquet (did you buy your tickets yet?) Since several drivers cannot attend the banquet, we ask that you either arrange to have someone pick it up for you or remember to pick it up at the track during our first race of the season. Several awards have been left behind in previous years. Let's try not to let that happen this year please as you have earned them and they should be with you.

Thank you.

11/25/2008 - Beginning 2009, the Pro 10.0 will have two indexes. Corvettes will compete as either a 10.00 or 10.50 index car. Racers will compete together in one Pro 10 class. It will be a mixed index class meaning pairings can be 10.00 v. 10.00 or 10.50 v. 10.50 or 10.00 v. 10.50. A handicapped Pro .500 tree will be used when cars are in different indexes. Expanding the index opens the class to additional racers and full fields of 16 Corvettes. The change should also eliminate the empty bye runs we experienced at several races in 2008 providing more competitive racing. More details will be forthcoming.

If you wish to discuss the change, please visit The Corvette Forum.

Four Classes In the Finale; Three Winners; Young (CC and P10), Farley (P11) and Conway (P8) Win
11/22/08 - We almost did not get this one in either! It was cold and windy and Raceway Park ran the program on the 1/8 mile instead of the 1/4 for safety reasons. Our indexes were reduced from 11.50 to 7.40, 10.0 to 6.40 and 6.50 to 5.45 to accommodate the shortened track. Chris Young went six rounds to defeat Rich Shuleski in the Corvette Challenge and at the same time went three rounds in the Pro 10.0 to defeat David Harris in that final to become to first driver to win two classes in one day. Rob Farley won his second uncontested final this season in 11.50 as both his potential opponents were eliminated the prior round for going under the 7.40 index. Mike Conway also won an uncontested final as Mark Shaw was unable to make the call due to engine failure.

Articles will be coming quickly. Preliminary points are updated. Congratulations to our 2009 Champions (preliminary) to Jeanne Linke (Corvette Challenge), Rob Farley (Official 11.50), Wayne Keegan (Pro 10.0) and Mark Shaw (Pro 8 Shootout). Official announcement made once points are confirmed next week.

We will finish our season Saturday, Nov 22, 2008 with our 9th CC points race, our 4th Pro 8 points race and our fifth Pro 10 and Pro 11.50 races. Look forward to seeing you all again this weekend.
Rained Out Again II
11/15/08 - Different week, same result. We are officially rained out today. We do not have a confirmed make up plan. We will likely not make up the Corvette Challenge and Pro 8 race since we are already booked for those for the final weekend of the year but will likely make up the 11.50 race next weekend, Saturday November 22, 2008 since there is none scheduled for the 22nd. I will get you final word soon.
Rained Out Again
11/08/08 - Well, it happened again. Rained out for the umpteenth time this year. Today's race moves once again. The new date will be November 22, 2008, the final day of the season. This, unfortunately, means the Top 16 will once again move and this time to the beginning of next season. All of today's classes move to the 22nd. See you all next week.
Final Pass For Leo Barnaby III's Corvette
11/06/08 - Hey everyone...

We are planning to take Leo’s car for one last pass down the quarter mile at his home track. It will be at Englishtown Raceway Park on Saturday Nov 8th at 2pm. Friends, family, and all supporters are welcome to attend. Our family deeply appreciates all the support and never grow tired of hearing 'Leo" stories from his customers, his competitors and spectators. The Corvette Challenge race is also scheduled for that day. The rain date is planned for Sat Nov 15th at 2pm if necessary.

We have been overwhelmed with gratitude over the Paul Major's donation of his Orlando winnings to Jenna’s scholarship fund.

Thanks again for all your support!

Ken Barnaby

A Message From Ken Barnaby
10/24/08 - Hello Everyone.

Well we were overwhelmed with support at Leo's viewing yesterday! The number of racers, competitors, customers, friends, family and strangers that came to say nice things about him was more than we could handle at times.

I will be heading to RP Friday night for the 8.50 index race. They will be doing a memorial trip up the return road for Leo after the last qualifier. Then Saturday Wayne, Bobby, Me and the rest of the crew will bring the car to RP for the last Corvette Challenge race. Then hopefully before the track closes this year we would like to plan a Sunday when we can take a memorial trip down the strip with a 'Leo Special' smokey burnout.

Thanks again to all you guys. We never knew you all cared so damn much.

Ken Barnaby
