4-14-2012 Results: Vinny Cupolo wins three in a row; Rich Shuleski takes the 11.5; & 1st time finalist Russ DeLibero takes the brackets!
04/14/2012 - It was a busy day at Raceway Park today, some 14 classes were run including the American SuperCar series. Amazingly the day went fairly smootly with only a couple of minor cleanup's along the way. For those that attended the weather couldn't have been nicer. Temperant and with the DA around 500 all day it was perfect for racing.

10.50 Final: Vinny Cupolo makes it three in a row. After beating his nephew Anthony in the semi's it was up to Greg Colella to put a stop to the Cupolo freight train. But Vinny was ready and his .006 RT was a full tenth better than Collela's and the race was over before it began. Edgar better warm his car up and change the oil.

11.50 Final: The 11.50 had two new finalists this week which I admit it was getting quite boring talking about myself and Ellis all the time. I am always glad to see new blood win in ANY category. This time it was Rich Shuleski, in his first 11.50 final of the year over Andrew Valponi. Again it was the reaction that sealed the deal. Rich used his .025 light vs. Andrew's .107 to take the stripe and the win!

Corvette Challenge brackets: Another first time finalist, Russ DeLibero took the win over hot shot Steve Pistilli. Pistilli was oh so close to a perfect light but unfortunately went -.003 red handing the win over DeLibero. That's not to say that Russ didn't have to work for it though, he took out heavy hitter Bob Trieschmann along the way. Pistilli was on fire today making it to the finals in both the EFI class and the CC.

Here are your the special awards for the event:

East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge presented by Yank Racing Converters
Best Winning Reaction Time First Round: Shawn Cavanagh .005

Fisher Automotive Pro 11.50
#1 Qualifier: Andrew Valponi 11.515
#2 Qualifier: Ellis Gray 11.537

Anger Mangement Racing Pro 10.50
#1 Qualifier: Tommy Michalkowski 10.512
#2 Qualifier: Paul Bogdan 10.513

Preliminary points have been updated. Visit points standings to see where you stand. To chat on the Corvette forum about this race, click here

V. Cupolo wins back to back in 10.50; E. Fischer takes the 11.50; and Tommy M. wins his first bracket race!!
04/07/2012 - 10.50 Final: In the 10.50 final it was all Cupolo's: Uncle Vinny vs nephew Anthony. After qualifying #2 and #1 respectively it was Vinny who came out on top; both cutting nearly identical lights .039 vs .040 and both breaking out, but Vinny breaking out less 10.48 to Anthony's 10.44. That makes two wins in a row for Vinny. Let the Cupolo smack talk begin, rumor has it that Edgar is looking for the keys to his car.

11.50 Final: The 11.50 was just like last week except everything was reversed. Last week E. Gray qualified #1 and E. Fischer qualified #2. It was Gray over Fischer in the finals. This week Fischer qualified #1 and Gray was #2. Fischer took the win in the finals when both drivers had equal reaction times but Fischer's 11.51 edged out Gray's too quick 11.48

Corvette Challenge brackets: Tommy Michalkowski in his first bracket final EVER took the win over yet another Cupolo, Tony Cupolo (Anthony's father for those that are paying attention [and Vinny's brother]). With identical dial-in's it was a heads up race, but it was over before it began when Tony went .016 red. Congrats to Tommy in his first bracket win ever, it was long overdue!!! To cap off the race, Tommy ran it all out running a very impressive 9.68 @ 141!

March 30th Racing is Officially Cancelled!
03/29/2012 - With an eye on the heavy rain that is headed our way, Raceway Park has cancelled all drag racing for Saturday March 30th. Remember for 2012 there will be NO MAKEUP DATES! Instead, we are allowed to drop your two worst races of ten, and obviously this will count as one of the dropped races. For more details check this page .
3/24/12 Results: Ellis doubles up (brackets and 11.50), V. Cupolo takes 10.50!!
03/24/2012 - In our season opener, it was a very low turnout today; I am guessing hard times and the threat of rain kept many at home, even some of our heavy hitters. Those that did show enjoyed an awesome day of a hard hitting track, cool weather and a very condensed day (we were done by 2pm!!). It was great seeing everyone at the track and we have a few new faces too, one "guy" named Darby really made a big impression. In the first final of the day, mr 11 fifty Ellis Gray continued his winning ways and cut a better light and ran a better number than yours truly to take an easy win in the 11.50.

The next final was Vinny Cupolo vs yours truly in the 10.50. Vinny's .036 light and 10.51 ET were too much to overcome for my .054 light forcing me to break out, running a 10.46.

In the brackets, Bob Treischmann is back in good health and cut a .002 but in fear that mr 11.50 would put together another perfect pass, Bob took just a wee bit too much win stripe handing the win over to Ellis Gray.

Congrats to Ellis and Vinny and all of our runners-up!

Here are your top 2 pro qualifiers

11.5
#1 E. Gray
#2 A. Valponi

10.5
#1 E. Fischer 10.514
#2 V. Cupolo 10.517

In other news, Darby is not really a guy, she is the new owner of the car formerly know as the "pickle" [my 1998 Fairway Green C5] and she did quite well, going 3 rounds in the brackets and WINNING the EFI brackets! She took out Ron Higgins (another CC regular) in the semi's! Congrats to Darby in her debut, and congrats to Ron too. Both drivers made excellent showings in their ex-Fischer cars.

Gate Letter For Tomorrow
03/23/2012 - There are some new announcements for the beginning of the 2012 season. We have several returning and new sponsors but have not met our sponsorship goals. This means some adjustments to payouts and programs. Effective with the start of the 2012 season, we will no longer be continuing the trophy upgrade program. We also will not have the special awards with the exception of bracket first round best winning reaction time and the index number one qualifiers. The linked pdf file shows the 2012 sponsors and event payouts. Best of luck and pray for the rain to hold off.

2012 Series Opener this Weekend is the First of Four in a Row
03/19/2012 - The 2012 East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge, Anger Management Racing Pro 10.50 Index and Pro 11.50 Index officially gets started this weekend at Raceway Park in a grueling first of four week series. There has been lots of smack talk especially in this thread, it seems the Cupolo's think they are going to run away with it all this year. Mostly their posts are have been ignored so they duked it out with each other by posting pics of who has the biggest trophy (literally not figuratively). Personally I would like to see NO repeat champions this year (and yes I know, I am the defending bracket champ). So bring all your friends, let's make this a successful year with great turnout and let's all be on a mission to NOT HAVE REPEAT CHAMPS! Also please read my introductary message below. - Eric Fischer

Eric Fischer to Take Over Updates on CorvetteChallenge.info. Perez Enters Full Retirement!!!
02/26/12 - Guys, Edgar is taking a much needed vacation and has handed over the website to me for updates and points tallying (is that a word? lol). Clearly Edgar has suffered from burnout by delivering well beyond what anyone could ever imagine. Thank you Edgar for your intense devotion. I'd love to take on as much as I can but there is NO WAY that I can keep up with Edgar.

Here are my responsibilities as I see them:
  • Keep the blogs updated on this page include rainouts or schedule changes
  • Provide race summary report threads on the Corvette forum
  • Update the points on this page hopefully by the same night of the race.

I am not: a race coordinator, nor a representative of or to Raceway Park or the CorvetteChallenge series.
So racers if there are things that Edgar used to do that you REALLY miss than email me and we shall talk.
    2012 Points information

02/21/12 - The 2012 East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge, Anger Management Racing Pro 10.50 Index and Pro 11.50 Index class points will be officially kept by Raceway Park and will also appear on this website. You MUST sign up for points if you wish to compete for points and be eligible for POINTS prizes. The 2012 East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge presented by Yank Racing Converters is a part of the Raceway Park Sunoco Saturday Points Series.

Each Corvette Challenge Point Series racer will have the opportunity to miss 2 or omit their lowest 2 points earning days from their final tally. Therefore, a racer competing at 10 events will only claim points from their best eight earning points days. In the event of rainouts, points racers would again have their 2 least earning points days omitted. ie: 10 events, 2 rain outs would mean 8 events run, racers claim their best 6 of 8 events run. This system allows racers to miss points days and still be a viable competitor in the series. Racers who do not compete in an event will automatically earn -0- points. Only the earned points will be dropped not the rating points. Rating points are used for tie breakers only. Raceway Park will automatically drop the two least earning points days at the conclusion of the points series. Good luck to everyone!!

The Corvette Challenge Bracket and Index Points will now be calculated the same as all of our other points series. The Corvette Index #1 qualifiers will receive one bonus point. Here is an explanation of the points series.

2012 SUNOCO SUPER CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS SERIES

In 2012, Raceway Park will continue with its Sunoco Championship Points Series. Racers may compete in the series races even if they do not wish to be a part of the points series, but there are several benefits to being a part of "Team RP". Drivers may compete in more than one eliminator on the same day, but it is their responsibility to be in the staging lanes when called. If the same car is used more than once in an eliminator, such as two racers sharing, it is the driver's responsibility to make sure the car number is correct for the current racer The 2012 points sheet may be found in Raceway News or on our website, RacewayPark.com for those interested in competing the competitive points series. Drivers can sign up for points by mail, or at the track on a race day. In order to gain points on a race day, racers must sign up prior to first round. One bonus point will be awarded to all who have signed up for their respective category before first round on the category's initial points day. No back-dating of points allowed. If you change points classes, you forfeit all points from the class you were in and cannot get them back if you change back to that class. Points will be earned from date of sign up. NHRA competition numbers and memberships will be honored, and will be required of all drivers qualified for the NHRA Division 1 Summit ET Finals. NHRA numbers and memberships are available through the NHRA. One of the benefits of being an NHRA member is that it makes you eligible for the National DRAGSTER Be a Winner/Be a Member program. Your name will automatically be entered into the program if you have an NHRA membership number and win an eliminator on a race day. The program qualifies racers to win prizes through the National DRAGSTER

    How are points awarded?

    1. By signing up for points by the first points day, before first round, you will receive 1 bonus point
    2. By staging your car in the first round of eliminations, you will receive 1 stage point
    3. For each round you win during eliminations, you will receive 1 point
    4. Ties
      1. Number of Eliminator wins
      2. The rating point system will be in effect at the end of the 5th points day
      3. If a tie still exists, higher position will be determined by whichever racer went further in competition during the prior points day. Then, position will be determined by better 1st round reaction time if there is still a tie
      4. Ties that need to be run off will be done so on the last day of points. If tie is for position only a coin toss will be done
    5. Racers will be responsible to contact the track office no later than September 6, following the last day of points, to state whether or not they will be competing on Raceway Park's 2012 team for the NHRA Division 1 Summit ET Finals on September 20, 21 and 22 at Lebanon Valley Dragway.

    How do rating points work?

The rating point system: Each driver will be rated according to his/her position in the standings. The rating system will begin after competition on the fifth points day. The rating will be as follows: If a racer is in first place, one rating point will be awarded; second place will receive two rating points, third place will receive three rating points, etc. If two or more racers are tied with the same amount of points for any position, they will each receive the same amount of rating points i.e. tied for fifth each racer gets five rating points. After the sixth points day, the rating numbers will be increased based upon what place the racer is in. This will continue through the end of the points series. On the last points day, if a racer is in seventh place and earns enough points on that day to move him/her into a tie for third place, the racer with the lower rating points will finish the year in third place and the higher rating points racer will be fourth. The only way a runoff will be necessary is if the earned points, number of wins, and rating points are the same. If after the tiebreaker, a result for position has not been determined, a one-run run off will occur.
